HEH Adds Don Gartner to Staff!

Tuesday, September 19, 2017, 12:54PM

High End Hockey is excited to announce the hiring of skills coach Don Gartner to our staff.  Don will be in charge of our Youth Hockey Development Series that will begin in June 2018 at Micro Ice in North Andover.

Coach Gartner joins HEH with a lengthy resume as both a player and a coach at all levels.  Growing up in Mentor, Ohio he led his high school team in scoring three years in a row and was named to the All-Cleveland All Star Game and All-Ohio All Star Game.  In 2009 Don was inducted into the Mentor High School Hall of Fame and is still the all time leading scorer in Mentor HS history.  Upon graduating Don played for the Cleveland Jr Barons of the North American Hockey League (NAHL).  Unfortunately an injury cut his career short but following his time as a player with the Barons, he was offered a job as an assistant coach with the Barons.

After coaching the Barons for two seasons, including a USA Hockey bronze medal finish, Don returned to coach youth hockey in Mentor and coached former Winnepeg Jet John Albert.  In 1999, Don was named the first coach in school history at Notre Dame Cathedral Latin School.  Four seasons later NDCL would capture its first championship, Gartner was named Coach of the Year three times in five season with NDCL.

Following his five year career with NDCL, Don and his wife moved to Merrimack, NH where he coached the high school team for two season.  At Merrimack Don coached current Boston Bruin Tim Schaller.  Since leaving his post with Merrimack HS, Don has coached youth hockey with the NH Jr Monarchs, NE Stars and is currently the head coach of the 2007 Elite Boston Jr Rangers.

Coach Gartner has a Master's Degree in Education and currently resides in Chelmsford, MA.
